Transitioning from depleting groundwater sources to a sustainable surface water based network.
Demand peaks in 2035 due to urbanization, stabilizing by 2050 due to demand management.
Water levels dropping ~0.5m/year since the 1990s. Upper Dupitila aquifer is stressed.
Reliance on Padma & Meghna rivers. 35 MCM/yr capacity target for 2035.
Peripheral rivers (Buriganga/Dhaleswari) highly polluted (low DO, high BOD) requiring advanced treatment.
Current infrastructure is rudimentary. The plan proposes a shift from septic tanks to a centralized water-borne sewerage system for high-density zones.
Water-borne sewerage system connected to a central Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
Improved on-site sanitation (septic tanks) with scheduled sludge management.
Construction of 10-hectare STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) on Buriganga river bank.
Buriganga River Bank (South)
The Master Plan is directly aligned with SDG Goal 6. It aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all residents of Keraniganj by 2030.
"Prioritizing 5 unions for the first phase of detailed planning and design."
